Porzingis giving Trump a chance: 'They booed me at first, you know'

Kristaps Porzingis is finding out what's it like to be a rising star in New York City, and that includes being asked about everything - including the election of another Manhattan celebrity to the White House.

"I don't really know the positive things and the negative things that this whole thing has but, anyway, you have to give (Donald Trump) a chance, you know?," Porzingis told Complex's Maurice Peebles. "They booed me at first, you know?"

Porzingis is going to catch some blowback for this, as comparing a negative draft night reaction to assuming the powers of the U.S. presidency are two vastly different things. As others would also note, a Latvian making $4.3 million a year for the New York Knicks probably has less immediate concerns than other groups who feel they were targeted - virtually without precedent in modern American electoral history - by Trump's polarizing campaign rhetoric.

Beyond that, the debate among some whether to "give Trump a chance" or not is effectively redundant, as he will be the president for the next four years - regardless of public opinion.

Porzingis - like everyone else in America - is free to voice whatever opinion he desires, yet, by his own admission, he doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about politics.

"I don't try to get involved in the political things too much," he said. "That can only cause trouble for me."
