Indiana AD: Wilson concerns predated contract extension

Indiana athletic director Fred Glass acknowledged Thursday he had concerns with coach Kevin Wilson's leadership style before he handed him a six-year contract extension in January.

While Glass wouldn't divulge what those concerns were, he said the two sides ironed out their issues before making the deal, only to see them re-emerge in early November.

"It came to my attention that some things I thought we'd put behind us had bubbled up again," Glass said at the press conference to announce Wilson's resignation and defensive coordinator Tom Allen's promotion, according to ESPN.com.

He did, however, admit the program's new direction isn't related to the football team's performance under Wilson, which he even referred to as "quite positive."

Reports of Wilson's alleged player mistreatment emerged in the wake of the coaching change, but Glass simply attributed the parting to "philosophical differences."

He added that there wasn't a particular event that led to Wilson's departure, and is confident no players' medical issues were compromised under Wilson after an outside review from legal counsel.

Wilson, 55, led the Hoosiers to a 24-47 record over six seasons, but won six games in back-to-back campaigns - the first time Indiana has strung together such a feat since 1993-94.

Wilson accepted a $542,000 buyout from the school, which is well shy of the millions he had remaining on his contract.
