Cincinnati shocks No. 19 Iowa State to end Cyclones' home winning streak

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Cincinnati smothered No. 19 Iowa State with its trademark defense, upsetting the Cyclones 55-54 in overtime to snap the school's 37-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents.

Kyle Washington and Jacob Evans III led a balanced scoring attack for the Bearcats with 13 and 11 respectively, with Evans supplying the winning free throws with 20 seconds left in the extra frame.

It was the second straight heart-breaking loss for Iowa State, who narrowly lost by two points to No. 8 Gonzaga on Sunday.

Iowa State entered play averaging 88.8 points per contest, good for 12th-best in the country, but couldn't solve the Cincinnati defense throughout the game. The Bearcats held the Cyclones to just 36 percent shooting from the field, including just five made three-pointers all game.

A dominant performance on the glass saw Cincinnati win the rebounding battle 46-34, which ended up being a major factor in the victory.

Naz Mitrou-Long had a potential game-winning shot rim out at the buzzer in regulation, and would end the night scoreless for the Cyclones.
