Report: Astros not out on Beltran despite adding McCann, Reddick

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow made it clear his team was all-in this offseason, and despite having already made three separate moves, there could be more in store.

The Astros loaded up Thursday by acquiring catcher Brian McCann from the New York Yankees and signing free-agent outfielder Josh Reddick, though that isn't preventing them from continuing their pursuit of free-agent slugger Carlos Beltran, major-league sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Beltran has been a target of the Astros all offseason long, but there's reportedly stiff competition coming from both the Yankees and Boston Red Sox.

The 39-year-old is coming off another strong season, hitting .295/.337/.513 with 29 home runs, 33 doubles, and 93 RBIs in 151 games split between the Yankees and Texas Rangers. He appeared in just nine games in right field and would likely be used almost exclusively as a designated hitter.

With McCann and Evan Gattis splitting catching duties, adding Beltran would allow the Astros to avoid having both their catchers in the lineup most days with one serving as the DH.
