Report: Braves among serious bidders for Castro
The Atlanta Braves have been incredibly active to begin the offseason, already signing knuckleballer R.A. Dickey to a one-year deal, agreeing to terms with right-hander Bartolo Colon, and being mentioned as suitors for Chris Sale, Chris Archer, and Sonny Gray.
Add one more name to the list of players the Braves are interested in.
Atlanta is among the most serious bidders for catcher Jason Castro, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.
Castro, 29, is one of the top catchers available on the open market, along with Wilson Ramos and Matt Wieters.
He would provide the Braves an opportunity to have a lefty-righty hitting platoon with Tyler Flowers, who is under contract for one more season with a team option for 2018.
| PLAYER | PA | HR | 2B | RBI | OPS | WAR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jason Castro | 376 | 11 | 16 | 32 | .684 | 1.1 |
| Tyler Flowers | 325 | 8 | 18 | 41 | .777 | 1.1 |
Where Castro will help the Braves most is with his pitch-framing. The former first-round pick is one of the best in baseball - along with Flowers - at framing, according to StatsCorner.
Castro made $5 million last season and is a free agent for the first time.
