Leicester tops Premier League point total with Champions League win

With Tuesday's 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen at King Power Stadium in Champions League group stage action, Claudio Ranieri's Foxes have exceeded their points total in the Premier League - in just three continental fixtures.

Sitting comfortably atop Group G by virtue of wins over the Danes, Porto and Club Brugge, Leicester City is now on nine points and the cusp of qualifying for the knockout stage in its maiden European voyage.

Club Points Goal Diff.
Leicester City 9 +5
FC Copenhagen 4 +3
FC Porto 4  0
Club Brugge 0 -8

Those nine points are one better than the eight the defending league champ has to show for a drab start to the English top-flight campaign after eight matches.

Thankfully for Leicester, that dismal league form has not translated to Europe, where the club has outscored opponents 5-0 after Riyad Mahrez's acrobatic effort was enough to top Copenhagen. The defending PFA Player of the Year now has three goals in three Champions League matches, including a brace against Brugge.

A tale of two campaigns is the story for Leicester, which lost only three matches last year on its way to finishing ten points clear of Arsenal. This season, Ranieri's lot has tasted defeat four times while conceding 14 times, to sit 13th - nine points adrift of fourth-place Liverpool and a spot in next season's Champions League.
