Encarnacion's walk-off HR sends Blue Jays to ALDS

Edwin Encarnacion has guaranteed the Toronto Blue Jays will live to see another day.

The Blue Jays advanced to the American League Division Series with a walk-off home run off the bat of Encarnacion to advance past the Baltimore Orioles with a 5-2 win in the wild-card game at Rogers Centre on Tuesday.

With one out and runners on the corners in the bottom of the 11th inning, Encarnacion hammered a three-run homer to left field off of Orioles reliever Ubaldo Jimenez for one of the biggest home runs in franchise history.

"As soon as he hit the ball, I knew it was gone and I was celebrating," Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista told reporters. "I probably felt just as good as he did."

The Orioles used seven pitchers in the game, though none were All-Star closer Zach Britton, who posted a 0.54 ERA and converted 47 saves during the regular season.

''It's frustrating, but it's not my call,'' Britton said. ''It was just frustrating to have to sit there and watch.''

Toronto will now face the Texas Rangers with Game 1 beginning on Thursday. The Blue Jays eliminated the Rangers in five games in the 2015 ALDS.
