Bengals' Eifert to practice in limited capacity

Mark Zerof / USA TODAY Sports

Tyler Eifert is poised for a significant step in his recovery from offseason ankle surgery.

The Cincinnati Bengals tight end told reporters that he'll return to practice in a limited capacity for Wednesday's team session, marking his first such participation of the year.

Eifert added that he wasn't sure whether he'll play in Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. Any hopes for which can be considered unrealistic, and it's possible he'll also sit out a matchup with the Miami Dolphins the following Thursday, but a return to practice is a major development nonetheless.

Provided he can continue to make progress while ramping up his workload, Eifert can be expected to get back on the field in the next few weeks.

The 26-year-old, who earned his first Pro Bowl nod after hauling in 13 touchdowns last year, would be quick to re-emerge as a top target and elite red-zone contributor alongside star wideout A.J. Green.
