Guyer's unique food intake includes crickets and collagen

Cleveland Indians utility player Brandon Guyer is quickly turning into one of the most distinctive baseball players in the league.

After recently landing second on the single-season hit by pitch list among American League players with 29, Guyer revealed to Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com some of his favorite snacks: Protein bars made of crickets and collagen.

"To me, they taste good," he said. "You would never know you're eating crickets. If I do want to eat something bad, like a piece of pizza or something, I will. I just don't really crave that stuff. I guess my taste buds are different."

The 30-year-old was acquired by the Indians on Aug. 1 and has been a spark plug for his new team, specifically against left-handed pitching, as he's hit .320/.465/.540 since the trade. As for the cricket protein bars, Guyer simply said it's part of who he is.

"Energy-wise, overall well-being in how I feel, my body, physically and mentally, I feel a lot better," Guyer said. "Every year, I feel like I learn something new."
