Report: Patriots trade Stork to Redskins before finalizing release

The New England Patriots traded center Bryan Stork to the Washington Redskins for a conditional seventh-round draft pick, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, multiple reports indicated the Patriots were set to release Stork after his two seasons with the club, but the team apparently traded the center before making the move official.

Stork is now said to be weighing retirement, but hasn't made any decision, according to Rapoport.

It appears the Redskins didn't want to risk losing Stork when he hit waivers.

Stork started 17 games for the Patriots, but looked set to lose his starting job to David Andrews.

The 25-year-old suffered a concussion during the 2015 campaign, and reportedly suffered another as training camp started, keeping him sidelined until Aug. 8.

If he doesn't retire, Stork will likely battle for the Washington starting job with Kory Lichtensteiger, who started five games in 2015, along with both exhibition contests this preseason.
