Styles defeats Cena in SummerSlam classic

The seemingly impenetrable armor of 15-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena has been punctured by "The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles.

In a bout that will undoubtedly be mentioned as a Match of the Year candidate at the end of 2016, Styles pulled off a feat on Sunday night at SummerSlam that only one man (CM Punk) has been able to do since 2011: Pick up a second victory on pay-per-view (Money in the Bank) in a singles match against Cena in a calendar year.

The finish came when Cena, who was taken back by how many times his opponent had kicked out before the count of three, attempted his signature Attitude Adjustment to seal the victory. Out of nowhere, though, Styles reversed the maneuver, hit a Styles Clash, and came off the top rope with a Phenomenal Forearm to beat the unofficial face that runs the place.

After the final bell, Cena sat in the middle of the squared circle in a state of shock. He removed one of his armbands, left it on the mat, and exited the ring to a mix of cheers and boos.

This is the sixth SummerSlam in a row where Cena has tasted defeat, having lost to the likes of Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Brock Lesnar, and Punk at past events.
