Add Nick Tropeano's name to the growing list of Los Angeles Angels pitchers out long term.

Tropeano, placed on the 15-day disabled list July 19 with a UCL tear in his right elbow, will undergo Tommy John surgery, general manager Billy Eppler told reporters Wednesday.

''Nick has decided to undergo UCL construction, so he will have Tommy John surgery,'' Eppler said. ''We're still working on the date, but that will be in the near future. Right now, he's still deliberating over a couple physicians and we'll make that announcement when it comes to light.''

The 25-year-old exited a contest July 18 against the Texas Rangers after two innings with a sore right elbow, which an MRI later confirmed as a tear.

Tropeano joins Andrew Heaney (Tommy John), Garrett Richards (torn UCL in right elbow), C.J. Wilson (shoulder surgery), and Cory Rasmus (groin surgery) among the players out for an extended period of time.

Los Angeles has used 11 pitchers in a starting role this season, with only three - Jered Weaver, Matt Shoemaker, and the recently traded Hector Santiago - surpassing the 100-inning mark so far.

Tropeano made 13 starts for the Angels, posting a 3-2 record with a 3.56 ERA and 1.48 WHIP.
