Report: Orioles showing interest in trading for Hellickson
Jeremy Hellickson may be the Baltimore Orioles' top rotation target ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.
Baltimore is reportedly interested in acquiring the Philadelphia Phillies starter, sending a scout to watch his outing Wednesday against the Miami Marlins, reports MLB Network's Jon Morosi, citing sources.
Hellickson's addition would present a drastic improvement to a beleaguered Orioles rotation that's struggled to complement the league's hardest-hitting offense. The club's collective 5.11 ERA currently ranks third worst in the majors, and a possible Hellickson introduction may propel the 29-year-old close toward the front end of Baltimore's rotation with his 3.84 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.
The Orioles haven't hid their desire to improve their rotation ahead of the Aug. 1 deadline, as earlier reports Wednesday also linked them to San Diego Padres starter Andrew Cashner.
