Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer will replace teammate Stephen Strasburg on the National League All-Star Game roster, Major League Baseball announced Friday.

Strasburg is still scheduled to make his start Friday against Noah Syndergaard and the New York Mets.

It will be the fourth consecutive All-Star appearance for the 31-year-old Scherzer.

Despite leading the NL in home runs allowed, Scherzer's league-leading 155 strikeouts was good enough for NL All-Star manager Terry Collins to make the switch.

Across 18 starts this year, Scherzer has held opposing hitters to a .195 average and owns a 3.21 ERA.

He also made history May 11 against the Detroit Tigers, joining the likes of Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, and Kerry Wood as the only pitchers in MLB history to strikeout 20 hitters in a game.
