Manchester City is considering a massive investment that will undoubtedly transform its back line with news that the Premier League side has tabled a vastly improved offer for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci.

City is contemplating a return to the bargaining table with a £51-million bid that, according to Jamie Jackson of the Guardian, could be difficult for the Italian side to dismiss.

The improved offer comes after Juve rejected an initial bid reportedly worth £38 million.

Jackson adds that new manager Pep Guardiola, who once described Bonucci as “one of my favourite ever players,” would confidently insert the 29-year-old into the heart of City's defensive unit.

It's a confidence that comes after a strong Euro 2016 campaign with Italy and several impressive seasons with Juventus since joining the Bianconeri from Bari in 2010.

With concerns over captain Vincent Kompany's ability to stay fit following a season where injuries persisted throughout the 2015-16 campaign, and questions regarding Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala's ability to prove they can competently compete in England's top flight, City may have no other choice but to back the Brinks truck up to Juventus Stadium. Assuming the club has its heart set on Bonucci.
