Fantasy: 10-team mock draft

The only thing more fun than a fantasy draft is a fantasy mock draft, which gives owners a chance to test their skills and strategies against human competition.

Last week, theScore staff participated in a 10-team, 15-round mock to help provide a glimpse at what your drafts might look like and to give some insight on what to watch for in each round.

This is a standard (non-PPR) scoring league with the following roster spots: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, FLEX, DEF, K, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN.

Draft Participants: Justin Boone, Esten McLaren, Josh Wegman, Josh Ghatak, Andrew Joe Potter, James Bisson, Jason Wilson, Ken Conrad, David Chernish, David P. Woods.

Round 1

Pick Player Owner
1 Antonio Brown (WR1) Boone
2 Le'Veon Bell (RB1) McLaren
3 Julio Jones (WR2) Wegman
4 Adrian Peterson (RB2) Ghatak
5 Todd Gurley (RB3) Potter
6 Odell Beckham Jr. (WR3) Bisson
7 DeAndre Hopkins (WR4) Wilson
8 Lamar Miller (RB4) Conrad
9 David Johnson (RB5) Chernish
10 A.J. Green (WR5) Woods

Round 1: Peterson went a little higher than you'll likely see him go in most drafts, but outside of that, it was a fairly standard opening round ... While it may seem weird to have a WR going off the board first overall, Brown deserves the honor this season.

Round 2

Pick Player Owner
11 Ezekiel Elliott (RB6) Woods
12 Rob Gronkowski (TE1) Chernish
13 Dez Bryant (WR6) Conrad
14 Allen Robinson (WR7) Wilson
15 Jamaal Charles (RB7) Bisson
16 Devonta Freeman (RB8) Potter
17 Doug Martin (RB9) Ghatak
18 Jordy Nelson (WR8) Wegman
19 Alshon Jeffery (WR9) McLaren
20 Mike Evans (WR10) Boone

Round 2: You want to take as few risks as possible in the first couple rounds, so a pick like Freeman could be a dangerous one. The Falcons have suggested they plan to reduce his workload with Tevin Coleman taking on a bigger role ... Elliott lasted until the second round here, but he'll likely be a first-round pick come August as the hype around him grows.

Round 3

Pick Player Owner
21 Mark Ingram (RB10) Boone
22 T.Y. Hilton (WR11) McLaren
23 Eddie Lacy (RB11) Wegman
24 Brandon Marshall (WR12) Ghatak
25 Cam Newton (QB1) Potter
26 Brandin Cooks (WR13) Bisson
27 LeSean McCoy (RB12) Wilson
28 Demaryius Thomas (WR14) Conrad
29 Amari Cooper (WR15) Chernish
30 Keenan Allen (WR16) Woods

Round 3: After his outstanding 2015 campaign, Newton is worthy of being the first QB selected, but in a 10-team league, the third round is extremely early to grab a passer. At this point in the draft, you should still be loading up on starting RBs and WRs. There's great value at quarterback in the later rounds ... If Ryan Fitzpatrick re-signs with the Jets, Marshall could be a steal in the third round. He finished third among fantasy wideouts last year.

Round 4

Pick Player Owner
31 Randall Cobb (WR17) Woods
22 Thomas Rawls (RB13) Chernish
33 Greg Olsen (TE2) Conrad
34 Jarvis Landry (WR18) Wilson
35 Golden Tate (WR19) Bisson
36 Sammy Watkins (WR20) Potter
37 Kelvin Benjamin (WR21) Ghatak
38 C.J. Anderson (RB14) Wegman
39 Aaron Rodgers (QB2) McLaren
40 Jeremy Maclin (WR22) Boone

Round 4: Rawls and Watkins head into the year surrounded by uncertainty due to their injuries. Being able to properly diagnose a player's recovery can be one of the best ways to find value in drafts. If Rawls and Watkins are healthy early in the season, they could win your league as fourth-round picks ... Taking Maclin at the end of the round allowed me to solidify my receiving corps early before the drop-off at the position happens in the next couple rounds.

Round 5

Pick Player Owner
41 Jordan Reed (TE3) Boone
42 Julian Edelman (WR23) McLaren
43 Carlos Hyde (RB15) Wegman
44 DeMarco Murray (RB16) Ghatak
45 Latavius Murray (RB17) Potter
46 Matt Forte (RB18) Bisson
47 Doug Baldwin (WR24) Wilson
48 Frank Gore (RB19) Conrad
49 Andrew Luck (QB3) Chernish
50 Jeremy Hill (RB20) Woods

Round 5: Normally you can wait on TE, but with no values available at running back, I chose to lock down an elite player at the position. Despite his lengthy and serious injury history, Reed is the clear No. 2 fantasy tight end in my rankings, in a tier by himself below Gronk, but above everyone else ... DeMarco Murray will struggle to return value as the RB16 in this draft. Murray didn't look good a year ago and will share his workload with rookie Derrick Henry. I would much rather have one of the other backs taken after him in this round.

Round 6

Pick Player Owner
51 Jay Ajayi (RB21) Woods
52 Jeremy Langford (RB22) Chernish
53 Michael Floyd (WR25) Conrad
54 Ryan Mathews (RB23) Wilson
55 Erick Decker (WR26) Bisson
56 Larry Fitzgerald (WR27) Potter
57 Allen Hurns (WR28) Ghatak
58 Donte Moncrief (WR29) Wegman
59 Jordan Matthews (WR30) McLaren
60 Dion Lewis (RB24) Boone

Round 6: This round was full of upside, with several players who could outproduce their draft slots, like Ajayi, Floyd, Mathews, Fitzgerald, Moncrief, and Dion Lewis ... This is the point where the fantasy value at WR falls off dramatically. Floyd, Fitzgerald, and Moncrief are solid options, but there aren't many safe picks among the remaining pass catchers after they go off the board.

Round 7

Pick Player Owner
61 Matt Jones (RB25) Boone
62 Travis Kelce (TE4) McLaren
63 Jonathan Stewart (RB26) Wegman
64 Michael Crabtree (WR31) Ghatak
65 Tyler Eifert (TE5) Potter
66 Emmanuel Sanders (WR32) Bisson
67 Chris Ivory (RB27) Wilson
68 Melvin Gordon (RB28) Conrad
69 DeSean Jackson (WR33) Chernish
70 Russell Wilson (QB4) Woods

Round 7: The combination of Lewis and Jones at the six-seven turn is exactly why fantasy owners should be going WR-heavy early in the draft. Jones faces little competition for carries in Washington, and has high-end RB2 upside if he corrects the fumbling problems that plagued him in his rookie season ... This still seems early to look at QB, but Wilson is worth considering since he will almost certainly finish in the top five for a third straight year.

Round 8

Pick Player Owner
71 John Brown (WR34) Woods
72 Kevin White (WR35) Chernish
73 Ben Roethlisberger (QB5) Conrad
74 Drew Brees (QB6) Wilson
75 Danny Woodhead (RB29) Bisson
76 DeVante Parker (WR36) Potter
77 Delanie Walker (TE6) Ghatak
78 Gio Bernard (RB30) Wegman
79 Duke Johnson (RB31) McLaren
80 Tyler Lockett (WR37) Boone

Round 8: During a forgettable 2015 campaign for fantasy running backs, Woodhead finished as the RB10 in standard leagues. He may not match that this season, but getting him anywhere outside the top 25 running backs is a steal ... White is a complete wild card heading into his second season. It's possible he makes an immediate impact coming off his lost rookie season, but it's tough to make a case for him over players like Parker or Lockett.

Round 9

Pick Player Owner
81 Carson Palmer (QB7) Boone
82 Marvin Jones (WR38) McLaren
83 Tom Brady (QB8) Wegman
84 Blake Bortles (QB9) Ghatak
85 Laquon Treadwell (WR39) Potter
86 Ameer Abdullah (RB32) Bisson
87 Coby Fleener (TE7) Wilson
88 Markus Wheaton (WR40) Conrad
89 Kendall Wright (WR41) Chernish
90 Corey Coleman (WR42) Woods

Round 9: Palmer has a good chance to finish among the top five quarterbacks again, which could make him a league-winner as a ninth-round pick ... Brady is just as intriguing as Palmer, but his four-game suspension will force Team Wegman to draft a second quarterback ... Fleener is one of my favorite targets at TE. Drew Brees makes stars out his tight ends and Fleener has enough talent to be the latest success story ... Very odd to see Kendall Wright go in the ninth round. If I was ranking Titans receivers, I'd rather have both Dorial Green-Beckham and Rishard Matthews over Wright.

Round 10

Pick Player Owner
91 Kenneth Dixon (RB33) Woods
92 Justin Forsett (RB34) Chernish
93 Steve Smith (WR43) Conrad
94 Stefan Diggs (WR44) Wilson
95 Kamar Aiken (WR45) Bisson
96 Devin Funchess (WR46) Potter
97 Sterling Shepard (WR47) Ghatak
98 Willie Snead (WR48) Wegman
99 Dorial Green-Beckham (WR49) McLaren
100 Torrey Smith (WR50) Boone

Round 10: Baltimore dominated this round, with four Ravens being taken. Forsett and Dixon are being drafted close to each other, but Forsett was playing well before his injury last year and will get the first chance at starting duties when camp opens ... Some interesting high-upside receivers went off the board in the 10th, including Aiken, Snead, and Torrey Smith.

Round 11

Pick Player Owner
101 T.J. Yeldon (RB35) Boone
102 Terrance Williams (WR51) McLaren
103 Ladarius Green (TE8) Wegman
104 Seattle Seahawks (DEF1)  Ghatak
105 Derrick Henry (RB36) Potter
106 Philip Rivers (QB10) Bisson
107 Tavon Austin (WR52) Wilson
108 Karlos Williams (RB37) Conrad
109 Vincent Jackson (WR53) Chernish
110 Devontae Booker (RB38) Woods

Round 11: The first defense goes off the board in the 11th round. It's early, but I'm not against jumping on a defense at this point if you feel extremely confident in them. It is a questionable move for Team Ghatak, however, since they only took three running backs in the first 10 rounds ... Yeldon and Henry will have to fight for touches on their respective teams, but an injury to their competition could turn either into fantasy stars.

Round 12

Pick Player Owner
111 Denver Broncos (DEF2) Woods
112 Eli Manning (QB11) Chernish
113 Gary Barnidge (TE9) Conrad
114 Tony Romo (QB12) Wilson
115 Derek Carr (QB13) Bisson
116 Zach Ertz (TE10) Potter
117 Jerick McKinnon (RB39) Ghatak
118 Stephen Gostkowski (K1) Wegman
119 Josh Gordon (WR54) McLaren
120 DeAngelo Williams (RB40) Boone

Round 12: Team Wegman let himself be seduced into taking a kicker before the final two rounds. The staff around the office will definitely help remind him not to make that mistake again ... Manning is another great value at quarterback, as a player with a late ADP and top-five upside thanks to Odell Beckham ... Team McLaren took a chance on Gordon being reinstated before the season. It's a risky move, especially for a team that only has two running backs on their roster up to this point.

Round 13

Pick Player Owner
121 DeAndre Washington (RB41) Boone
122 C.J. Prosise (RB42) McLaren
123 Mike Wallace (WR55) Wegman
124 Jameis Winston (QB14) Ghatak
125 Charcandrick West (RB43) Potter
126 Jimmy Graham (TE11) Bisson
127 Rashad Jennings (RB44) Wilson
128 Arizona Cardinals (DEF3) Conrad
129 Houston Texans (DEF4) Chernish
130 Julius Thomas (TE12) Woods

Round 13: I was very happy to fill out my RB depth with DeAngelo Williams and Washington at the 12-13 turn. Williams showed last year that he's an instant RB1 if Le'Veon Bell goes down, while Washington has received a ton of praise from the Raiders' coaching staff and might challenge Latavius Murray for touches behind one of the best offensive lines in the league ... This is a smart time to consider grabbing a defense in order to beat the rush in the final two rounds. The Cardinals' D could join the elite this season.

Round 14

Pick Player Owner
131 Charles Sims (RB45) Woods
132 Shane Vereen (RB46) Chernish
133 Chris Hogan (WR56) Conrad
134 Carolina Panthers (DEF5) Wilson
135 Kansas City Chiefs (DEF6) Bisson
136 Graham Gano (K2) Potter
137 Eric Ebron (TE13) Ghatak
138 L.A. Rams (DEF7) Wegman
139 Philadelphia Eagles (DEF8) McLaren
140 Minnesota Vikings (DEF9) Boone

Round 14: In a round loaded with defenses, I was happy to see the Vikings' D fall to me. Few defenses boast the skill Minnesota has at each level. ... In a 10-team league there is still talent to be mined in the late rounds, which is clear when someone like Sims is still available. The Bucs' backup ended last season as the 22nd running back in standard leagues and is a Doug Martin injury away from being a possible RB1.

Round 15

Pick Player Owner
141 Steven Hauschka (K3) Boone
142 Adam Vinatieri (K4) McLaren
143 Tyrod Taylor (QB15) Wegman
144 Chandler Catanzaro (K5) Ghatak
145 New York Jets (DEF10) Potter
146 Cairo Santos (K6) Bisson
147 Blair Walsh (K7) Wilson
148 Dan Bailey (K8) Conrad
149 Mason Crosby (K9) Chernish
150 Justin Tucker (K10) Woods

Round 15: The final round is filled with kickers, as it should be. When deciding on a kicker, you’re aiming for a team that will have a high-scoring offense, but you should also pick a player on a team you’ll want to watch. There’s nothing worse than being forced to sit through a bad game right till the end because your kicker is involved.
