Marlins, Braves greet troops before Fort Bragg game

MLB / Twitter

They may be rivals on the makeshift field come first pitch, but until 8 p.m. Sunday the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves are uniting to give troops at Fort Bragg a day they won't ever forget.

Both teams arrived at Fort Bragg on Sunday morning ahead of their historic series finale, which will be the first Major League Baseball game played on an active military base. The clubs joined together with military personnel and their families for a photo op in front of the iconic "Bronze Bruce" Vietnam War memorial statue.

From there, both teams went their separate ways to explore the historic base. The Braves got an up-close lesson in the art of parachuting - from the ground, at least.

For many Marlins players and staff members, entering the base was a moving moment that called for personal reflection.

Though there are lots of baseball fans on the base, on this day players were the ones asking for autographs from their heroes.

Both clubs made sure to spend time with some wounded servicemen and servicewomen at the Womack Medical Center.

Matt Wisler gave out some gifts before his start Sunday.

Lunch was also on the menu - in true army style, of course.
