The Texas Rangers have reportedly released first baseman Ike Davis from his minor-league contract, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

He is now able to pursue a potential big-league role with any other club, and the New York Yankees could be of particular note. The Bronx Bombers are currently running with second baseman Rob Refsnyder at first due to a myriad of injuries and were reportedly interested in Davis before he signed with Texas in February.

The 29-year-old slashed .268/.350/.437 in 39 games this season with Triple-A Round Rock.

Davis spent the 2015 season with the Oakland Athletics.
