Hodgson irritated by questions over 'the Wayne Rooney show'

Roy Hodgson must make a decision before England's national team takes the pitch at Euro 2016.

After England looked uninspiring with Wayne Rooney playing as a No. 10 in the Three Lions' 1-0 victory over Portugal on Thursday, Hodgson must decide whether to keep the midfield diamond in which the captain struggled or revert to a 4-3-3. Trying to fit the 30-year-old into the team is viewed as a nuisance by some supporters, but the English manager is equally frustrated by questions over what he calls "the Wayne Rooney show" and insists the player will be a starter in France.

"You're talking about the player who has played 111 games for England and scored 52 goals, so perhaps his best position is anywhere on the field," Hodgson said, according to Daniel Taylor of the Guardian. He added: "It's a good problem to have, shoehorning in attacking players. I don't think I've had that for a long time - a lot of good attacking players to shoehorn in - so you won't find me complaining."

Hodgson used both Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy against Portugal, and Dele Alli was removed from his best role in order to accommodate Rooney, who's most comfortable on the left side of the pitch when he's not playing as a striker.
