The Los Angeles Dodgers will officially pay Carl Crawford a lot of money to not play for them anymore.

The club released the left fielder Monday, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick, after designating him for assignment June 5.

Crawford still has $35 million remaining on his contract that runs through the 2017 season, which the Dodgers will pay in full until he signs with another club.

The outfielder penned a massive seven-year, $126-million deal with the Boston Red Sox in 2011, but failed to live up to expectations generated from his impressive playing days with the Tampa Bay Rays, causing the Red Sox to ship him to the Dodgers after just two seasons.

In 81 at-bats this season, Crawford is slashing .185/.230/.235.
