Rutgers' Corey Sanders withdraws from NBA draft

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Rutgers freshman Corey Sanders will return to school for his sophomore season, as the 6-foot-2 guard is withdrawing from the 2016 NBA Draft.

Sanders was the lone bright spot during an awful season for the Scarlet Knights, averaging 15.9 points and 4.3 assists in his first collegiate campaign. Unfortunately the talented freshman's solid numbers didn't lead to wins, as Rutgers finished 7-25, last in the Big Ten.

That dismal record cost coach Eddie Jordan his job, with Steve Pikiell taking over. If selected, Sanders would have been the first Rutgers player taken in the NBA draft since Quincy Douby in 2007.

With Sanders back in the fold, and Pikiell bringing in some of his own recruits, the Scarlet Knights will hope to see improvement in 2016-17.
