Vermaelen declared fit ahead of Barcelona finale

Rarely used Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen is fit to play Saturday at Granada after suffering a calf injury that has seen the former Arsenal standout sidelined since April 11.

Vermaelen, who's made 20 appearances for Barcelona this season, has been deemed fit enough for Sunday's vital fixture, a statement on Barcelona' website announced Tuesday.

"Thomas Vermaelen has been given the medical all clear to return to action," the statement said. "The Belgian has now recovered from the calf injury that has kept him out since 11 April."

Vermaelen's return to fitness will also boost Belgium's chances at the Euros, as the centre-back is likely to line up alongside Tottenham stars Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, with Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany set to miss out with an injury.
