Marquee Matchup: Leicester seeks to wrap up title at Old Trafford

How fitting that the unforeseen Premier League title bid of Leicester City could be clinched with three points on Sunday at Old Trafford, the home of the most successful club in the English game.

Manchester United also has reason to be cheerful, however, after booking a spot in the FA Cup final at Wembley on May 21. A late Anthony Martial strike saw the side overcome Everton by a 2-1 scoreline last Saturday, and it'll take on Crystal Palace in a repeat of the 1990 showpiece.

United still has something to play for in the top flight, with Arsenal and Manchester City just five points ahead of it in the Champions League qualification places, both having played a game more.

Last time these two teams met was in a well-contested 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium last November. It was the match where history was made when Jamie Vardy arrowed a shot beyond David De Gea to score in a record 11th consecutive Premier League matches.

Injuries and suspensions

The United medical team has been whittling down the often lengthy Carrington injury list, with Luke Shaw, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Will Keane representing the only unavailable players. A late decision will be made on Adnan Januazaj's fitness.

Leicester's head of fitness and conditioning Matt Reeves deserves a pay rise, as the injury-plagued Matthew James is the only squad member still in the treatment room. Leonardo Ulloa, who suffered a back injury against Swansea City last time out, should continue to deputise for the suspended Vardy.

Projected lineups

Manchester United starting XI: De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Lingard, Mata, Schneiderlin, Rooney, Martial; Rashford

Leicester starting XI: Schmeichel; Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs; Mahrez, Kante, Drinkwater, Schlupp; Okazaki, Ulloa

What to watch

Although Christian Fuchs is struggling to come to terms with the likelihood of him winning a Premier League medal in the next few weeks, he's well versed in what Leicester has to do over its remaining fixtures.

"We will try and keep a clean sheet also in the last three games. That's been the name of the game throughout the season. We usually score at least once," he said, as if reading straight from Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid handbook.

Claudio Ranieri will be unmoved in his selection of left-back Fuchs, right-back Danny Simpson, and the central pairing of Robert Huth and Wes Morgan - the latter of whom have featured in every minute of the improbable pursuit for English football's summit.

In fact, the whole lineup from the 4-0 stuffing of the Swans should keep their places in true Ranieri fashion, meaning the pace of Jeffrey Schlupp should again be preferred ahead of Marc Albrighton, compensating for the steady movement of Ulloa. Though not particularly economical in his productivity, Schlupp, in the same vain as substitute Demarai Gray, is a nuisance when at a full gallop.

Louis van Gaal selected a typically conservative XI in the trip to East Midlands, opting for Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger deep in the midfield. With respect to the widely mocked Dutchman, though, he's gone a tad more adventurous lately, likely flanking the precocious talent of Marcus Rashford upfront with Anthony Martial to the left and Jesse Lingard to the right.

With Juan Mata devising ways to release these speedy frontmen, this should necessitate an even deeper defence than usual, with N'Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater busying themselves in front. Each time one of this pair wins possession, Riyad Mahrez and Schlupp will be anticipating a quickly dispatched long ball to the wings.

Ranieri is nearing his first league title at the age of 64 after runner-up finishes in three different countries. The Italian would love to have it wrapped up by the season closer at Chelsea, as it would mean he'll earn a guard of honour from both the reigning champion and the club that unceremoniously dismissed him 12 years earlier.
