A.J. Pierzynski, the colourful catcher now in his 19th season in the big leagues, reached an impressive milestone Wednesday at Fenway Park when he became the ninth catcher in history with 2,000 career hits.

Pierzynski, who made his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins in 1998, entered that exclusive club with a single to left-center off knuckleballer Steven Wright in the second inning, and immediately signaled to the Atlanta Braves' dugout to keep the baseball.
