Nike terminates contract with Johnny Manziel

Nike ended its endorsement deal with former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel, a company spokesman confirmed to ESPN's Darren Rovell on Tuesday.

The multinational apparel company cut ties with Manziel some time after the NFL season ended, reports Rovell, citing sources. Nissan and McDonalds are among the major companies who no longer work with Manziel.

Manziel was dropped by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, earlier Tuesday after the former Heisman Trophy winner didn't meet an ultimatum to seek treatment. It was Manziel's second agent of the calendar year, as Erik Burkhardt released the 23-year-old in February amid a police investigation into an alleged domestic violence incident with his ex-girlfriend.

A Dallas grand jury will decide Thursday whether Manziel will be charged with assault, and could decide an indictment by Monday. Manziel allegedly struck his ex-girlfriend with so much force that it caused her to temporarily lose hearing.

It's unclear whether either party will testify Thursday.

Manziel released a statement after Rosenhaus dropped him, saying he needs to overcome undisclosed "issues" in order to play in the NFL for the upcoming season.
