Report: Kings to interview Mike Woodson for vacant coaching job

The Sacramento Kings will interview former New York Knicks head coach and current Los Angeles Clippers assistant Mike Woodson as part of their search for a new bench boss, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Clippers have granted the Kings permission to meet with Woodson "in the near future," Wojnarowski reports.

Before joining the Clippers staff, Woodson spent parts of nine seasons as a head coach for the Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. He led his team to the playoffs in five of those nine seasons, reaching the second round three times.

The Kings fired George Karl last Thursday - the day after his first full regular season with the team ended - and their next coach will be their 12th (including interims) in the last 12 years.

They have reportedly also shown interest in Vinny Del Negro, Kevin McHale, and Mark Jackson for the position, suggesting they prefer a candidate with prior NBA head-coaching experience.

It's unclear if they've conducted any interviews to this point.
