Friday's Goaltender Value Rankings
Here are theScore's goaltender value rankings for Friday, April 15:
Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
John Gibson (ANA) | vs. NAS | 8 |
Roberto Luongo (FLA) | vs. NYI | 8 |
Ben Bishop (TB) | vs. DET | 8 |
Gibson gets the top spot thanks to his cheap salary, home-ice advantage, and likelihood of picking up a win. Gibson finished the season posting a 2.04 goals against and .924 save percentage over his final 10 starts. If you can't trust his name, trust in Anaheim's strong team defense.
Prior to a poor performance in Game 1, Luongo was 2-1 with a 1.96 GAA and .931 SV% in three starts versus the Islanders this year. Expect the veteran netminder to bounce back and take the reduced ownership levels as an added bonus.
Bishop stopped 34 of 36 shots in a Game 1 victory. Including that performance, he now owns a 1.82 GAA and .935 SV% against the Red Wings on the year. He has been a solid option in net all year long for Tampa and that should continue once again in Game 2.

Best of the Rest
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Brian Elliott (STL) | vs. CHI | 6 |
Pekka Rinne (NAS) | at ANA | 5 |
Corey Crawford (CHI) | at STL | 5 |
Elliott and Crawford were both strong to open the series with Elliot ultimately getting the upper-hand. However, a follow-up shutout seems unlikely considering the strength of the Chicago offense. With the series likely to be tightly contested, it is difficult to predict which goalie is going the be the superior option night-in and night-out.
Rinne has been a roller coaster this year and finished the regular season by surrendering 15 goals over his final five games. A road matchup also spells trouble considering the Ducks were 25-10-6 at home this year.

Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Jimmy Howard (DET) | at TB | 4 |
Thomas Greiss (NYI) | at FLA | 3 |
Howard one of the cheapest option among the goalies. He did stop 31 of 34 shots in Game 1 but came out on the losing end of the matchup. He makes for a decent tournament option if Detroit picks up the win, but his individual performance isn't likely to be spectacular.
