The Buffalo Bills have selected quarterback Cardale Jones out of Ohio State in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 139th overall.

Jones makes the jump to the NFL after a college career in which he saw limited playing time, but the reps he did earn certainly got the attention of scouts around the league.

In particular, his raw ability as a passer was on full display as he took over as starting quarterback and led Ohio State to a National Championship win in 2014.

With the Bills seemingly hesitant to commit to Tyrod Taylor, Jones gives the club a high-upside prospect who could conceivably be groomed to step in at some point in the future.

Cardale Jones Bio

Position: QB
School: Ohio State
College Experience: Redshirt Junior
Height: 6-5
Weight: 253 lbs.

Strengths

  • Possesses one of the draft's best arms.
  • Showcases the ability to make NFL-caliber throws.
  • Jones has the mobility to evade rushers and move in the pocket, as well as pick up yards on the ground as a runner.
  • Solid field vision, able to move through his reads.

Weaknesses

  • Inconsistent accuracy, especially in the intermediate range, is a major flaw.
  • Sometimes overthrows receivers on deep shots.
  • Fails to protect himself when running, which could lead to injuries in the pros.
  • Can lock onto first read, forcing throws against clearly unfavorable coverage.
  • Below-average passer when on the run.

Combine Results

Jones injured his right hamstring at the combine, which kept him from performing the majority of the drills.
