Report: Les Miles' job status was decided during 3rd-quarter meeting Saturday

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

In a story that keeps getting wilder, LSU administration decided coach Les Miles would return for 2016 during the third quarter of the Tigers' 19-7 win over Texas A&M on Saturday, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Miles has built an impressive resume in his 11-year career at the helm of the Tigers, and while it seems preposterous a decision that large would be based around a first-half performance in a meaningless game, nothing seems unbelievable in light of how the school has handled this situation in the past few weeks.

The administration also felt that the media swayed the public, and that it would've reflected poorly on the school if Miles had been fired, according to Schad.

The LSU players and fans certainly showed they wanted Miles to stay, carrying the coach off the field and chanting his name throughout Saturday's game.

It may seem as though this story can now be put to bed, but given how the past few weeks have played out, anything is possible in Baton Rouge.
