Sean 'Diddy' Combs will avoid felony charges related to an alleged altercation with a UCLA football coach and intern.

The Los Angeles County prosecutors have declined to file felony assault and battery charges against the music mogul after he was arrested on the campus for allegedly swinging a kettlebell weight during the confrontation, according to the Los Angeles Times' Richard Winton and Nathan Fenno.

The district attorney referred the case to the L.A. city attorney for a decision about whether the mogul's conduct could be considered a misdemeanor, the Times reports.

"We are thankful that the district attorney rejected felony charges in this matter," said Combs' attorney Mark Geragos. "This case never should have been part of the criminal justice system to begin with."

Combs was arrested by UCLA police on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats, and one count of battery. He was released from prison that night after posting his $160,000 bond.

The altercation was reportedly spurred between Combs and strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi, after his son, Justin Combs, a defensive back for the Bruins, was allegedly kicked out of practice.

The younger Combs returned to Alosi's office that afternoon with his father, where the situation escalated to the point the elder Combs allegedly lunged at Alosi. After the two were separated by onlookers, the mogul allegedly grabbed and swung the kettlebell.

The university acknowledged the incident in a statement, noting that no one was seriously injured.

Combs issued a statement to the Associated Press, claiming self defense to protect himself and his son.

Later that week, Justin took to Instagram to thank his father for being there for him.

I thank God for having a father that's always there for me.. Love you pops!
