Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher says the Seminoles' 2017 season opener against Alabama "is great for the game of college football," according to Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post.

"We've been two of the most consistent programs in the country the last few years," Fisher said of the college football titans, who will meet in a neutral-site game in Atlanta.

That game is planned to take place at the Atlanta Falcons' new stadium, scheduled to open the same year.

The Seminoles and Crimson Tide have dominated the college ranks in recent years. Alabama has won three national titles in the last six seasons, while Florida State won the 2013 title and is 39-3 in the last three years.

Both programs were also part of the first ever College Football Playoff following the 2014 season.

Fisher said squaring off against legendary Alabama coach Nick Saban - who he served with at LSU from 2000 to 2004 - adds some extra magic to an already highly anticipated matchup.

"To be able to go against someone who you have a ton of respect for in Nick and the program in which they have just adds to it," he said.

Florida State will also kick off the 2016 season with a neutral-site game, facing off against Ole Miss in Orlando.
