Alabama and Florida State have an agreement in place to meet on the football field in Atlanta, Ga. to open the 2017 season, according to Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post.

According to D'Angelo, Seminoles athletic director Stan Wilcox told a group of the university's boosters that an agreement is in place, but a contract has not yet been signed.

The game is expected to be played in the New Atlanta Stadium - a multi-purpose stadium that is currently under construction and will serve as the home of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

Rumors of such a meeting stretch as far back as March, but the agreement wasn't finalized until Friday.

The schools will each receive between $4- and $5-million for their participation in the game.

The two programs have combined to win four of the last six national titles, and each qualified for the inaugural College Football Playoff last season.

Alabama and Florida State last met on the football field in 2007 when the Seminoles beat the Tide 21-14 in Tallahassee. However, Alabama holds a 2-1-1 all-time edge in the first four meetings.
