Baker Mayfield: 'We got our asses kicked' by Ohio State

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday was not a good night for Oklahoma, as the Sooners were run off their home field by Ohio State, and quarterback Baker Mayfield didn't mince words after the game.

"We got our asses kicked," Mayfield said to reporters following the 45-24 loss. "I let the team down with my performance."

Mayfield struggled against a speedy Buckeyes defense, completing just 53 percent of his passes and getting intercepted twice. He finished with only 224 yards passing as the Sooners couldn't get into any sort of rhythm.

One player Mayfield will likely be chatting with after the game, is backup quarterback Austin Kendall. The redshirt freshman added some dramatics to the Saturday night contest by suggesting the Buckeyes' defense was "basic" and that Mayfield would "light them up."

The Sooners did anything but, and drop to 1-2 on the young season.

While the College Football Playoff may well be out of reach, Oklahoma will look to regroup when Big 12 play starts Oct. 1 against TCU.
