Suspended Michigan WR Ahmir Mitchell leaving program

Suspended freshman wide receiver Ahmir Mitchell has decided that Michigan just isn't for him, announcing his departure Wednesday as a result.

"I love what U of M had to offer me but, what is best for me and my family comes first," Mitchell wrote on Twitter. "Therefore I will like to announce that I am hereby reopening my recruitment to all Universities and football programs."

Mitchell, a four-star recruit, was already enrolled at Michigan, so he'll have to sit out a full season should he transfer to another FBS program.

Mitchell and fellow freshman Shelton Johnson, a defensive end, were suspended by Michigan last week, but head coach Jim Harbaugh refused to explain what led to the bans.

Mitchell was rated the No. 216 prospect on the ESPN 300 list for the class of 2016. He selected to play for the Wolverines over scholarship offers from Florida State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and several other powerhouse programs.
