NCAA Game Summary - BYU at Notre Dame
Notre Dame, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Tommy Rees threw for 235 yards and Cam McDaniel rushed for 117 more as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish dispatched of the BYU Cougars, 23-13, at Notre Dame Stadium.
Rees completed 15-of-28 pass attempts and had a touchdown to match an interception for Notre Dame (8-3). McDaniel had a team-high 24 carries and Tarean Folston added 78 yards and a score. DaVaris Daniels caught six passes for 107 yards and a touchdown while TJ Jones picked up 95 yards on five receptions.
Taysom Hill and Paul Lasike each rushed for 101 yards for BYU (7-4). Hill also threw for 168 yards and a touchdown, as well as an interception, on 21-of-36 passing. Skyler Ridley brought in six passes for 52 yards.
Rees connected with Daniels on a 61-yard scoring strike early in the first quarter to get the Irish out to a 7-0 lead.
The Cougars responded with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Hill to JD Falslev to end a 12-play drive that spanned 71 yards.
Folston scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown just over two minutes later to give Notre Dame the lead back.
Kyle Brindza knocked in a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter and another 26-yarder in the beginning of the third to stretch the lead further.
Justin Sorensen had field goals of 31 and 27 yards for the Cougars to pull them within a touchdown entering the fourth quarter
However the only score in the final period came on a 51-yard field goal from Brindza.
Both teams converted well on third down, with BYU successful on 11-of-20 attempts and Notre Dame on 8-of-16. However both teams scored just a single touchdown in four red zone chances.
