NCAA Game Summary - Oklahoma at Iowa State

Ames, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Trevor Knight accounted for six touchdowns, three passing and three rushing, leading 19th-ranked Oklahoma to a 59-14 rout of Iowa State on Saturday.

Knight completed 22-of-35 passes for 230 yards and ran for a career-high 146 yards on 16 carries for the Sooners (6-2, 3-2 Big 12), who weren't caught looking ahead to next week's matchup with fellow Big 12 contender Baylor.

Oklahoma hadn't played since the 31-30 home loss to Kansas State two weeks ago, when Michael Hunnicutt missed a 19-yard field goal in the closing minutes, but bounced back Saturday with a strong effort that featured a 21-0 first-quarter lead.

"I'm really proud of our team, to play the way we have," said Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. "Iowa State has been in a lot of tight, good games through the year, and really played well in a lot of instances. We were able to stretch it out and our guys performed really well."

Iowa State (2-6, 0-5) was the perfect tonic for Oklahoma. The Sooners have now won 16 straight in the series and are 72-5-2 all-time against the Cyclones.

"Oklahoma is always going to have good players," said Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads. "They always have and always will. They're that tradition-rich in what they've done in the sport of football and so they're always going to be able to recruit really good football players."

Sam B. Richardson threw for 239 yards with a touchdown and added a score on the ground for Iowa State, which hasn't beaten Oklahoma since 1990 and last beat the Sooners at home in 1960.

Oklahoma rolled up 751 total yards, including 510 on the ground. Alex Ross ran for 144 yards and Samaje Perine chipped in 110 with a score.

It took Oklahoma all of two plays to reach the end zone with its first possession. Knight hit Sterling Shepard for 46 yards on the first play after an Iowa State punt, then raced 31 yards to the end zone.

The Sooners needed 11 plays to travel 82 yards on their next series, which Knight keyed with a 16-yard run and finished with a 16-yard scoring strike to K.J. Young.

Knight was picked off near the Iowa State goal line to end the next Oklahoma touch, but he found Blake Bell in the end zone from five yards away to cap the next series for a 21-0 cushion late in the first period.

Iowa State finally answered in the first minute of the second quarter on Richardson's 18-yard touchdown run, but the Sooners scored two more touchdowns later in the period for a comfortable halftime margin. Perine ran seven yards for a score to cap a 90-yard series and Knight added an 8-yard scoring run soon after to make it 35-7.

Knight was again intercepted late in the second quarter, but directed a trio of scoring drives in the third. The first ended in a 44-yard field goal by Hunnicutt and Knight finished the second with a 17-yard TD pass to Bell.

Richardson threw a 59-yard TD pass to D'Vario Montgomery for the Cyclones, then fumbled on the next possession to give Oklahoma the ball at the Iowa State 15. Two plays later, Knight scored on a 9-yard run for a 52-14 edge.

David Smith scored on an 8-yard run for the only points of the fourth.
