NCAA Game Summary - Bowling Green at Wisconsin

Madison, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Melvin Gordon led Wisconsin's punishing rushing attack with five touchdowns as the 19th-ranked Badgers broke multiple school records in a 68-17 rout of Bowling Green on Saturday.

Gordon, a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, carried the ball 13 times for 253 yards and tied a school record with his five rushing touchdowns.

"There is no doubt about it, that's the best tailback I've seen in a long time," said Bowling Green coach Dino Babers. "We helped him, there's no doubt about it. We missed a bunch of tackles, but you can't take anything away from that young man."

Quarterback Tanner McEvoy rushed for 158 yards and one score on 11 carries for the Badgers (2-1), who set a single-game school record with 644 rushing yards. Corey Clement carried the ball 16 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

The team rushing total was the most in the Big Ten's modern era, dating back to 1946.

McEvoy completed 9-of-16 passes for 112 yards, one touchdown and an interception for Wisconsin, which also broke the school single-game mark for total offense with 756 yards.

"Obviously it's great to win. It's always great to win. And proud of this team," said Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen. "It was some good team effort. We still have a lot we can work on."

James Knapke connected on 13-of-28 passes for 163 yards and an interception for the Falcons (2-2), who had a two-game winning streak snapped.

After Bowling Green went three-and-out on the game's opening possession, Kenzel Doe returned a punt 38 yards and McEvoy followed with a 24-yard TD run to make it 7-0 Wisconsin.

The Falcons tied things up after Gordon fumbled, with Fred Coppet scoring from 35 yards out.

But the Badgers responded with an 11-play, 70-yard scoring drive. McEvoy's 24- yard run highlighted the march that Gordon capped with a 2-yard TD run.

BGSU was threatening to score another touchdown late in the first quarter. Roger Lewis' 36-yard catch along the right sideline moved the ball to the Wisconsin 15-yard line. The Falcons, however, had to settle for a 28-yard Tyler Tate field goal.

Wisconsin tacked on another touchdown early in the second thanks to Doe's 40- yard punt return. McEvoy and Sam Arneson quickly hooked up for a 34-yard score to make it 21-10.

The Badgers followed that up with a game-changing play on defense. Ryan Burbrink made a one-handed catch to help move Bowling Green inside the 10. On 3rd-and-goal, Lubern Figaro picked off Knapke and returned the ball 43 yards. Three plays later, Gordon ripped off a 50-yard TD run. The score was 27-10 after Rafael Gaglianone missed the extra point.

Another BGSU turnover led to seven more points for Wisconsin. The Badgers recovered a fumble this time and Gordon capped an 11-play drive with a 3-yard TD run.

Gordon added a 21-yard score with 18 seconds left for his fourth touchdown of the first half. He capped his huge day with a 69-yard TD run early in the third quarter.

Clement scored twice in the third to make it a 62-10 contest. BGSU outscored the Badgers by a 7-6 margin in the fourth.
