NCAA Game Summary - Illinois at Washington

Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Cyler Miles finished with 191 yards on 15- of-20 passing efficiency as the Washington Huskies completed a 44-19 rout of the Illinois Fighting Illini in a non-conference bout at Husky Stadium.

Jaydon Mickens and John Ross tallied 75 and 74 yards receiving, respectively, for the Huskies (3-0) as they begin the season with three consecutive wins for the second year in a row. Jesse Callier and Dwayne Washington combined for 111 rushing yards and scored one touchdown on the ground apiece, while Miles contributed 55 yards to the ground attack. Hau'oli Kikaha led Washington's defensive unit with six total tackles, 3.5 stops for loss, three sacks and a fumble recovery.

Wes Lunt paced the Fighting Illini (2-1) by hitting on 16-of-26 pass attempts for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but was also intercepted once. Geronimo Allison led all receivers with 160 yards and two touchdowns on six catches, while Josh Ferguson racked up 52 yards on 11 rushes. Mason Monheim and T.J. Neal, Jr. both recorded 10 total tackles on the defensive side of the ball for the visitors.

The Huskies wasted no time putting points on the board, as Jesse Callier concluded the opening drive of the game with a three-yard touchdown run to give the hosts an early 7-0 lead.

Illinois responded with its first points when Taylor Zalewski converted a 25- yard field goal attempt at the 5:47 mark of the first period.

Washington immediately took back control of the momentum, as Miles connected with Ross on a 75-yard touchdown pass on the first offensive play of the next drive. The Huskies' defense then made its mark as Shaq Thompson picked off Lunt and returned the interception 36 yards for a score to put Washington in front, 21-3, with 4:11 left to play in the first frame.

The Huskies extended their lead moments into the second quarter, as Dwayne Washington dashed 12 yards for a touchdown to finish off an eight-play, 75- yard drive.

The Fighting Illini's defense ended the run by taking down Korey Durkee in Washington's end zone for a safety. The Huskies' defense answered right back as Thompson recovered a fumble before returning it 52 yards for a score. The Illinois' offense finally produced a touchdown with 1:12 left before the break, as Lunt completed a 60-yard touchdown pass to Allison to cut the visitors deficit down to 23 points, but Cameron Van Winkle put a 20-yard field goal attempt through the uprights as time expired to send Washington into the intermission with a 38-12 lead.

The only points of the third quarter came courtesy of a 27-yard touchdown pass from Lunt to Allison.

Van Winkle made two field goals in the final stanza, including a 25-yard try and a 51-yard attempt.

Illinois converted only one of its 11 third-down plays into a new set of downs and was penalized 11 times for 110 yards. The Huskies outrushed the Fighting Illini, 245-72 and ran 23 more offensive plays than the visitors.
