South Alabama rattled off 30 unanswered points in the first half and never looked back, beginning with a 40-yard field goal by Aleem Sunanon at the 5:53 mark of the first quarter. Later in the period Houston landed in the end zone on a one-yard run and barely a minute later he again crossed the goal line from four yards out.

In the second quarter Sunanon converted field goals of 19 and 20 yards to make the score 23-0, while an interception by Qudarius Ford in the final moments of the half was returned 42 yards for a score in order to give USA a commanding 30-0 advantage at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, the Ragin' Cajuns finally landed on the scoreboard as Nixon hooked up with Ricky Johnson on a 47-yard TD pass play with 4:50 remaining.

Louisiana, which generated just 212 yards of total offense, was playing without quarterback Terrance Broadway who was dealing with a wrist injury.

Before dropping the regular-season finale the Ragin' Cajuns already had their plans made for the postseason, setting up against Tulane in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 21.
