NCAA Game Summary - Kansas State at Kansas

Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - John Hubert rumbled for 220 yards and a touchdown, as the Kansas State Wildcats claimed a 31-10 win over the Kansas Jayhawks in the annual Sunflower Showdown at Memorial Stadium.

Jake Waters completed 10-of-21 passes for 160 yards with two touchdowns and one interception to help the Wildcats (7-5, 5-4 Big 12) solidify their bowl chances with a win over rival KU. Waters also ran for a third-quarter score.

Jake Heaps completed 14-of-29 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown for the Jayhawks (3-9, 1-8), and he was intercepted three times on the day. James Sims carried 22 times for 82 yards in a losing effort.

Kansas State struck first, as Waters found Zach Trujillo for a 35-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter.

Later in the opening frame, Hubert scored on a 21-yard scamper to make it a 14-0 game.

The Wildcats forced a three-and-out on the ensuing possession, then took over at the KU 34 following a short punt out of the Jayhawks' end zone. Shortly after, Waters connected with Glenn Gronkowski for a 29-yard scoring strike to push K-State's lead to 21-0.

KU got on the scoreboard with just under four minutes to play in the half, as Heaps tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jimmay Mundine. Ron Doherty tacked on a 31-yard field goal with just over a minute on the clock to send the Jayhawks into the locker room trailing, 21-10.

A 15-yard TD scamper by Waters accounted for the only scoring of the third quarter, as K-State went into the final frame with a 28-10 cushion. Ian Patterson added a 31-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to account for the final margin.
