NCAA Game Summary - Massachusetts at Ohio University

Athens, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - In the final home game of his career, Tyler Tettleton threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Ohio Bobcats to a 51-23 decision over the Massachusetts Minutemen in a Mid-American Conference matchup at Peden Stadium.

Tettleton hit on 18-of-27 pass attempts and was intercepted once while pacing Ohio (7-5, 4-4 MAC) as it snapped a three-game losing slide. Beau Blankenship also had a nice Senior Day showing with 124 yards including a 50-yard touchdown run on 13 carries. Deonte Foster made six catches for 89 yards and Travis Carrie recorded two of the Bobcats' three interceptions and returned both of the picks for defensive scores.

UMass (1-11, 1-7) had difficulty moving the ball in the final game of its second season at the FBS level. A.J. Doyle completed only 4-of-12 passes for 109 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Mike Wegzyn also saw time under center, but connected on only 2-of-6 throws for 28 yards and also threw a pick six. Shadrach Abrokwah tallied 110 yards and a score on 31 carries while Tajae Sharpe made three grabs for 73 yards and a touchdown. The loss was the sixth in a row for the Minutemen.

The Bobcats took control right away as Blankenship rushed 50 yards for a touchdown on the second play from scrimmage. Ohio extended its lead to 14-0 at the 10:45 mark of the first period as Tettleton completed a two-yard touchdown pass to Chase Cochran. UMass responded with just under five minutes left in the first quarter with a 42-yard field goal by Brendon Levengood.

The Minutemen narrowed the deficit with 12:32 left in the first half as Abrokwah rushed three yards for a score. After the defense stopped the Bobcats' attack, UMass had a chance to take its first lead. However, Doyle was picked off by Carrie, who returned the interception 66 yards for a touchdown. Ohio closed out the second frame with a six-yard rushing touchdown by Ryan Boykin and a 30-yard field goal by Josiah Yazdani that gave it a 31-10 lead at halftime.

UMass came out of the intermission with some momentum as Doyle connected with Sharpe on a 38-yard touchdown pass. Levengood sent a 37-yard field goal attempts through the uprights with 11:19 left to narrow the Minutemen's deficit to 31-20.

The Bobcats answered seven minutes later when Tettleton found Landon Smith for a four-yard touchdown pass. Yazdani converted a 24-yard field goal attempt with 2:29 remaining before the fourth quarter to put Ohio ahead, 41-20.

UMass scored its final points of the contest with just under 13 minutes left in regulation as Levengood connected on a 45-yard field goal attempt. The Bobcats added three points with a 25-yard field goal by Yazdani and Carrie put an exclamation point on the victory as he picked off Wegzyn before his 30-yard interception return for a touchdown with only 4:19 left to play.

Ohio amassed 461 yards of total offense and limited the Minutemen to 290 total yards.
