NCAA Game Summary - Bowling Green vs. Buffalo

Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Travis Greene racked up 129 yards and a touchdown as the Bowling Green Falcons punched their ticket to the Mid- American Conference Championship with a 24-7 victory over the Buffalo Bulls at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Matt Johnson connected on only 11-of-26 pass attempts for Bowling Green (9-3, 7-1 MAC), but tallied 230 yards with one touchdown and one interception through the air. Johnson also added 72 yards and a score on 10 carries. Greene took 30 handoffs while Shaun Joplin made six receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Falcons, who will take on Northern Illinois for the MAC title in Detroit on Dec. 6.

Buffalo (8-4, 6-2) was led by Joe Licata, who hit on 21-of-45 of his throws for 221 yards and was picked off once. Licata was sacked five times. Alex Neutz made six catches for 66 yards while Branden Oliver accounted for the Bulls' only score despite being limited to only 46 yards on 18 carries. Senior linebacker Khalil Mack, who is the NCAA career record holder in forced fumbles, made 2.5 tackles for loss to tie Justin Babin's NCAA career record of 75.

The only points in the opening frame came courtesy of a 40-yard field goal by Tyler Tate that gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

Buffalo took control in the second quarter as Oliver rushed two yards for a touchdown with 7:13 remaining before the break. Patrick Clarke converted his extra-point attempt to give the Bulls a 7-3 lead, which they maintained through the rest of the first half.

BGSU jumped back in front at the 8:07 mark of the third quarter when Johnson completed a 23-yard pass for a score to Joplin. The Falcons extended their lead with just over two minutes left in the third period as Greene rushed 14 yards into the end zone to conclude a seven-play, 93-yard drive.

The Falcons continued their dominance of the second half in the final quarter as Johnson scored on a seven-yard run to give them a 24-7 lead with 8:18 left in regulation. The Bulls were unable to rally back as two of their final three possessions ended with an unsuccessful fourth-down conversion and the other resulted with a Licata interception.

The Bulls finished the game with only 15 rushing yards on 24 attempts. BGSU amassed 490 yards of total offense and had possession of the ball for over 34 minutes.
