NCAA Game Summary - Toledo at Akron

Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Pohl completed 18-of-29 passes for 259 yards with three touchdowns, as the Akron Zips closed the season with a 31-29 win over visiting Toledo.

Pohl's final scoring pass, a 35-yard connection with Tyrell Goodman, gave the Zips a 31-17 lead with 6:33 remaining.

Toledo, though, rallied.

Bernard Reedy caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Terrance Owens less than a minute later, but the point-after attempt was blocked and the Rockets trailed by eight. Marc Remy's 3-yard TD run with 59 seconds to play pulled Toledo within two, but the conversion pass failed and Akron recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal it.

L.T. Smith and Jon Root also hauled in TD passes for Akron (5-7, 4-4 MAC), which won its last three games. Jawon Chisholm ran for a score in the victory.

Owens finished 16-of-33 for 158 yards with three scores and an interception for the Rockets (7-5, 5-3), who lost their final two games after a five-game win streak. Remy and Kareem Hunt each ran for 103 yards in defeat.

Toledo scored first on a 9-yard pass from Owens to Dwight Macon, but Smith caught a 19-yard scoring pass from Pohl to even it. The teams then traded second-quarter field goals before Chisholm scored on a 2-yard run to put Akron ahead 17-10 at the intermission.

Pohl found Root with an 8-yard TD pass to extend the margin to 14 points and Macon hauled in his second scoring pass of the game -- a 12-yarder -- late in the third quarter to again trim the deficit to seven.
