NCAA Game Summary - Illinois at Purdue

West Lafayette, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Nathan Scheelhaase threw a pair of touchdowns as the Illinois Fighting Illini pulled off a 20-16 win against the Purdue Boilermakers in Big Ten action at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Scheelhaase completed 24-of-30 passes for 257 yards, was sacked twice and had a pair of attempts picked off as the Illini (4-7, 1-6 Big Ten) snapped a six- game slide and won for the first time since late September. Steve Hull reeled in a game-high 10 passes for 169 yards and both scores from Scheelhaase.

The Boilermakers (1-10, 0-7) losers of nine straight, were paced by Danny Etling who converted 20-of-29 passes for 163 yards and a score, while Akeem Hunt picked up 102 yards and a TD on 18 rushing attempts.

On the first drive of the afternoon Hunt raced 62 yards to the end zone for Purdue, putting the hosts up 7-0. Etling added an eight-yard TD pass to Cameron Posey later in the frame, but in between Scheelhaase hooked up with Hull on a three-yard TD pass play.

The only points of the second frame came from Scheelhaase and Hull, this time on a 30-yard scoring play, knotting the score at 14-14 at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Illinois kicker Taylor Zalewski knocked through field goals of 32 and 23 yards to push the Illini in front by six points, 20-14.

At the end of the game Purdue came up with a safety, but by then it was too little, too late.

Illinois held the Boilermakers to just 283 yards of total offense on 58 snaps.

The Boilermakers have just a single win on the season, that being a 20-14 triumph over Indiana State, which means the most recent victory for the program over another member of the FBS was just under a year ago when Purdue took down Indiana, 56-35, at home on Nov. 24, 2012.
