NCAA Game Summary - New Mexico State at Florida Atlantic

Boca Raton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaquez Johnson threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns as the Florida Atlantic Owls coasted to a 55-10 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies in a non-conference matchup at FAU Stadium,

Johnson completed 15-of-22 pass attempts and was only intercepted once while under center for FAU (5-6), which kept its postseason hopes alive with the victory. He also added a team-high 79 yards on the ground while Jay Warren rushed 14 times for 61 yards and a score. Lucky Whitehead registered one rushing and one receiving score while Daniel McKinney paced the Owls with 138 receiving yards on five catches. Nexon Dorvilus reeled in a pair of touchdown receptions as well.

For NMSU (1-10), Andrew McDonald completed 13-of-27 passes for 136 yards. Xavier Hall gained 74 yards on 12 carries and Austin Franklin had four catches for 58 yards. The Aggies have now lost three consecutive outings.

The Owls took control in the first frame with back-to-back touchdowns. Whitehead rushed 26 yards with just over 10 minutes left in the first quarter to put the first points on the board. FAU's special teams helped the cause late in the opening frame as Randell Johnson blocked a punt and Damian Fortner recovered the loose ball in the end zone.

FAU continued its dominance in the opening moments of the second stanza as Johnson completed a 64-yard touchdown pass to Whitehead. Johnson threw a six- yard pass for a score to Nexon Dorvilus with 3:27 left before halftime to put the Owls ahead, 28-0. NMSU finally answered just before the intermission as McDonald punched it in from a yard out to end the run.

The Owls extended their lead early in the third quarter as Warren rushed one- yard across the goal line. FAU then went ahead, 42-7, as Johnson completed a 33-yard strike to Dorvilus for six points.

The Aggies ended the run at the 5:04 mark of the third period as Maxwell Johnson connected on a 25-yard field goal attempt.

FAU continued to dominate in the final period as Damian Fortner scored on a 36-yard run to put the hosts ahead, 49-10. The Owls added another score with just under five minutes left to play as D'Joun Smith rushed one-yard for a touchdown. Mitch Anderson missed the ensuing extra-point attempt and neither side managed to produce any more points the rest of the way.

The Owls amassed 585 total yards of offense and 23 first downs. NMSU was limited to only 278 yards and 15 first downs. The win was the third in a row for FAU, which will host FIU on Friday.
