NCAA Game Summary - Florida Atlantic at Southern Miss

Hattiesburg, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaquez Johnson and his two rushing touchdowns led the Florida Atlantic Owls over Conference USA foes the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, 41-7, at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

Johnson added 37 passing yards on 5-of-9 completions for the Owls (4-6, 3-4 C- USA). He also led the team with 111 rushing yards on 19 attempts, while Jay Warren had 105 rushing yards on 18 carries.

The Golden Eagles' (0-10, 0-6) quarterback Nick Mullens was 12-of-37 for 169 yards and two interceptions while scoring the team's only touchdown with a four-yard rush in the fourth quarter. Markese Triplett was the leading receiver on the day with 43 yards on three catches, as USM extended the nation's longest active losing streak to 22 games.

The Owls struck first as Damian Fortner scored a one-yard touchdown rush to put them up 7-0 less than six minutes into the game.

FAU had a big second quarter, scoring on four drives. Mitch Anderson was responsible for a pair of field goals (40, 33), Johnson ran in a score from five yards out, and with 52 seconds before the break, Christian Milstead returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown, making the score 27-0 at the half.

Johnson added another rushing touchdown, this time from one yard out, on the Owls' first drive of the second half. Fortner added another score, a four-yard rush, later in the frame.

With 10:57 remaining, the Golden Eagles finally scored on Mullens' touchdown run to avoid the shutout.

FAU won despite converting only 3-of-14 third down attempts.
