NCAA Game Summary - Syracuse at Maryland

College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Jerome Smith ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries to lead the Syracuse Orange over the Maryland Terrapins, 20-3, in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at Byrd Stadium.

For the Orange (5-4,3-2 ACC), Terrel Hunt finished with 140 yards and an interception on 15-of-24 passing, while adding 67 yards rushing on seven carries. Jarrod West was their leading receiver with 42 yards on three catches.

C.J. Brown threw for 211 yards and two interceptions while going 21-of-40 for the Terps (5-4,1-3), who lost their third-straight contest. Amba Etta-Tawo led all receivers with six catches for 109 yards, while Brandon Ross finished with 54 rushing yards on 15 carries.

The Orange opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run by Smith with just over seven minutes to play in the first quarter. That capped off a 16-play, 80-yard drive on the opening possession of the game. The second quarter saw a stretch of five turnovers in six series, as both teams struggled to hold onto the ball. Syracuse converted the last one, a fumble by Etta-Tawo, into points as they added a 34-yard field goal in the final seconds of the half to take a 10-0 lead into intermission.

Another fumble by the Terps on their opening drive of the second half resulted in a 30-yard field goal by Syracuse with just over 10 minutes to play in the third put them up 13-0. The Terps finally put points on the board with a 23-yard field goal late in the third. Syracuse found the end zone early in the fourth as Smith ran it in from 21 yards out with 10:33 left in regulation.

The Orange finished with 242 rushing yards to just 81 for the Terps. Syracuse was penalized 12 times for 115 yards.
