NCAA Game Summary - Temple at Rutgers

Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Leonte Carroo's 33-yard TD catch with 35 seconds remaining provided the Rutgers Scarlet Knights with a 23-20 win over the Temple Owls in American Athletic Conference action at High Point Solutions Stadium.

Carroo finished with seven receptions for 147 yards and two scores for the Knights (5-3, 2-2 AAC) as they snapped a two-game slide. Gary Nova converted 27-of-38 for 371 yards and three scores for the hosts as well.

The Owls (1-8, 0-5) were paced by P.J. Walker who converted 21-of-31 for 203 yards and two scores, but he was also picked off twice as the team bowed for the second time in as many outings.

Temple scored the first points of the afternoon on a 26-yard TD pass from Walker to Robby Anderson, but the PAT failed, leaving the visitors with a 6-0 edge heading into the second quarter.

After putting together a 12-play, 67-yard drive that consumed close to six minutes, the Knights had to settle for a 30-yard field goal by Kyle Federico at the 11:00 mark of the second period.

With just over a minute to play before the half, the Owls boosted their lead to 13-3 when Walker hooked up with Kenneth Harper on a four-yard scoring strike.

The only points of the third period came courtesy of a four-yard TD pass from Nova to Michael Burton, but Rutgers also failed on a PAT, making the score 13-9. Early in the fourth Nova and Carroo combined on a 34-yard TD pass play to take the lead at 16-13.

On their next possession, the Owls regained the advantage thanks to a 25-yard TD run by Harper, but that still left the Scarlet Knights plenty of time to complete their comeback bid.

Rutgers survived despite posting only 69 net rushing yards and being penalized nine times for a loss of 75 yards.
