NCAA Game Summary - Eastern Michigan at Rutgers

Piscataway, NJ (Sports Network) - Paul James ran for 192 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to a 28-10 victory over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a non-conference matchup at High Point Solutions Stadium.

James did his damage on just 21 carries while Rutgers (2-1) threw the ball only 13 times. Gary Nova completed all four of his pass attempts for 44 yards before he was knocked out of the game in the first quarter with an undisclosed injury. Chas Dodd replaced Nova and went 4-of-9 for 45 yards.

Eastern Michigan (1-2) was led by Tyler Benz, who completed 24-of-40 pass attempts for 335 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Benz was sacked six times in the contest. Tyreese Russell was Benz's key target, finishing with nine receptions for 84 yards. While Benz completed passes to eight different receivers, the Eagles' run game struggled, gaining just 38 yards on 40 attempts.

The Scarlet Knights opened up the game with an eight-play, 87-yard drive which was capped off by a 13-yard touchdown run by James. Eastern Michigan responded with a 39-yard field goal but on the following kickoff Rutgers' Quron Pratt returned the ball 99 yards for a touchdown to put Rutgers up 14-3.

Midway through the second quarter, Benz found Brumfield for a 43-yard touchdown pass. The Eagles trailed 14-10 at halftime.

Rutgers took complete control in the second half with James running in a 55- yard touchdown in the third quarter before a 52-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave the Scarlet Knights a comfortable, 28-10 victory.

Eastern Michigan lost despite having 373 yards of total offense compared to just 274 yards for Rutgers.
