Report: Vanderbilt's Kevin Stallings expected to accept Pitt job

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt appears to have zeroed in on its next head coach, as Vanderbilt's Kevin Stallings has been offered the position and is expected to accept, sources told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Stallings has been with the SEC school for 17 seasons, compiling a 332-220 record with seven NCAA tournament appearances. The Commodores were ousted in the play-in game by Wichita State in this year's edition of March Madness, prompting questions surrounding his status at Vanderbilt.

The Panthers were left without a coach after Jamie Dixon bolted for TCU following their first-round exit in the tournament at the hands of Wisconsin. Todd Turner is heading up the search for Pitt's next coach, and was also the man who hired Stallings at Vanderbilt.

Despite rumors surrounding Stallings' status at Vanderbilt over the past week, both the school and Stallings emphatically denied reports he would be fired. His relocation to Pitt appears to end any speculation and allows the Commodores to begin looking for their next head coach before the majority of good candidates have gone elsewhere.
